Featured Dancer-Tara Oglesby

For those who absolutely must dance!

Main Street Studios is doing a new thing this year-every month, we will be showcasing one featured dancer from the Lakeway area so show how colorful and talented our community is! With several dance facilities in Hamblen county, a fantastic theatre and arts community and a growing population of transplants-our sleepy mountain town is moving to a new groove! Let's ring in the New Year with Tara and hear all about what keeps the beat in those dancing feet!

1. How old were you when you started dance?

I was two years old when I started!

2. Let's talk tomorrow! What are your plans for the future?

I really want to work in film and television in any aspect when I graduate college! I’m currently looking at two awesome film schools to attend!

3.Even dancers as passionate as you need a break! What are your favorite TV shows to lounge to?

I’m obsessed with Stranger Things and Riverdale. I also enjoy watching some older shows like Gilligan’s Island, Happy Days, Dawson’s Creek, and Saved by the Bell. My all time favorite show will always be South Park!

4. Being a part of JTF means lots of awesome trips to NYC! What are some of your favorite Broadway shows?

My favorite stage shows are Hair, Rocky Horror Picture Show, The Heathers, Mamma Mia, and Rock of Ages!

5. Tell us about your stage experience! Are you a 'Triple Threat'?

I have been in many recitals and competed in over twenty competitions. I have also performed in many places like Disney World, Country Tonight, and the Majestic Theatre. My very first stage show was Wicked for Kids when I was seven. I played Nessarose! In 2015, I started my community theatre career with Encore Theatrical Company! I have been in Lion King, A Christmas Story, Seussical, James and the Giant Peach, Peter Pan, Hairspray, the Wizard of Oz, and Into the Woods. My favorite roles I have played have been the Leg-lamp in A Christmas Story, Princess Tiger Lily in Peter Pan, and Rapunzel in Into the Woods. I would consider myself a triple threat, for I am confident in my talents!

6. You can dance with one famous person-dead or alive-who is it?

I would definitely dance with Patrick Swayze. Ever since I was little, my mom and I would watch Dirty Dancing and Ghost all the time. As I have gotten older, I have started watching more of his movies such as Youngblood, Roadhouse. He was also in my favorite movie of all time, The Outsiders. He was such a charming, and talented man, I would be more than honored to dance with him!

7.Advice for young or aspiring dancers?

My advice to any aspiring dancer is to TRY EVERYTHING! Try all styles, all moves, all workouts! Do not let the uncertainty of something get in the way of greatness! Fear can consume you, but curiosity can change you!
